Welcome!
You’ve found the official home of Katy Batten, a space where life’s curveballs get the middle finger, and we meet adversity with a pint of British humour and a healthy dash of defiance. But this website is so much more than just a home for my creations. It’s a hub for our community, where readers and customers can connect, find support, and discover what comes next.
Hi! My name is Kate.
Like you, I’m a normal human. One day, I decided to own my creativity and put it into the world as books, in as many forms as I could. I write, design, create, and publish honestly, deeply, and freely, with no one to answer to but myself (and my two dogs, who remain entirely unimpressed unless I’m handing out cheese tax).
One of my creations, The Missing Piece, became an international best-selling book series and helped hundreds of people’s voices be heard by telling their story through the power of words. Apart from my author/creative side, I’m a survivor of domestic violence dedicated to helping others shine. I’ve helped many authors become bestsellers, built a food bank and community centre that now serves over 1,900 people every month, and grown its charity funding from £2,000 to over £200,000 in four years. My family and this community drive me; they fuel my passion every day.
Over the last 12 years, I’ve experienced a wild, winding adventure. I’ve channelled my psychology background (Honours degree, Milton Keynes University) into supporting people through my words, my voice, and my work at New Pasture Lane Community Centre. I’m also walking my own path: join me as I journey through recovery from trauma, addiction, and PTSD.
I’ve achieved, celebrated, and most importantly, helped others along the way. The books opened doors, but what matters most is showing you that you can redesign your life and your mind, no matter what gets thrown at you. If you’ve got even one person in your corner, you don’t just survive, you thrive!
Then my husband’s bladder cancer showed up, uninvited, as these things do. Instead of letting it take charge, I went on a mad creative crusade and made a comic about it, with a whole host of characters, some of them the people I work with, others the prescription medications my husband was taking. It was either that, or I lost my frigging sanity!
Watching someone you love fight cancer is nothing short of the worst possible thing to witness, and the impact that cancer can have upon everyone else in that situation is mentally, spiritually, and physically exhausting.
So I wanted to create a different arena, one where we dodge despair, laugh in the dark, and share the unvarnished truth of living, healing, and fighting back. This isn’t just a blog; it’s a two-fingered salute to misery, a celebration of resilience, and a safe space for anyone who’s ever felt like they just need a swift kick in the nuts!
Through this website, you can connect with me directly, join our growing community, and explore my store to buy future books, comics, and special merchandise. You’ll also get access to unique offers, like discount codes and special events, all aimed at making this community even more supportive and accessible.
My goal? To give you the straight-talking wisdom I wish I could’ve handed my 20-year-old self, so she could’ve dodged some pain, skipped some trauma, and saved a small fortune on bad haircuts. Everything here is from the heart, rooted in one belief: you are capable of so much more than you think.
Read, laugh, lean in, and walk alongside me. If you still want more, drop me a message. We’ll break down barriers together with plenty of encouragement, a little sarcasm, and almost certainly a cup of tea or two.
Well, I am British after all.
Welcome to the community!
Your friend for the journey
Kate x
