Just Obey, Stubborn Ass!
I have been a stubborn ass rebel for as long as I can remember. I think it started when I was 4, or around then. I remember my earliest memory well. I remember walking out the main entrance of my school building with my arms crossed, my bottom lip sticking out and feeling like it was the end of the world while rambling the words ” Din’t Paint” to my mother while she chuckled and said, “Never mind, come on, let’s go home.”
I was referring to the fact that I hadn’t been allowed to paint pictures that day. “Didn’t paint” was my 4-year-old vocabulary term for saying “I didn’t paint today, and I am mega pissed for not being allowed”. It seems even from an early age, I was mega creative, and if I didn’t create, I wasn’t pleased and hated being told what to do because it kept me from doing what I loved most.
From this early age, not obeying the rules became the mantra of my entire life. I never stuck to any laws, and I didn’t follow anybody in authority, including my mother. However, my rule-breaking with my mother was due to deeper personal reasons for hurt (another story, another blog, another time). For now, let us stick to the reason behind this blog post.
Imagine my massive, shocking surprise at 40, when I was about to learn that obeying would mean everything! That “thing” called obeying, where you have to do as you are told, would be the thing that stands between me and pure peace within my soul.
As we get older and begin a self-discovery journey, the only quest of the human soul is to seek peace. So, here I was on this journey and starting to learn that the only true path to peace is…?? Yes, you guessed it, OBEDIENCE! … Yes, my rebel friend, I can feel you facepalming from here.
- Early Rebellious Nature: From a young age, I exhibited a rebellious streak, expressed through my frustration at not being allowed to paint, indicating a strong creative drive and dislike of restrictions.
Yes, my darling brothers and sisters in the rebel community, we have to obey to get the life that God created us for! The word obey appears 69 times in the Bible. There are many lessons in them, 69 mentions, and it tells us that if we don’t obey, life is going to suck big time! That is if we don’t follow the instruction (God’s plan) then life will turn out miserable, downright rubbish and highly frustrating at every point when you try to do what you want and not what He wants.
So join me on my journey of learning and applying obedience to my own life. I will gladly share my experiences in my blog posts to help you on your trip to ditch the rebel attitude and learn that, to move forward toward a more peaceful life, you have to stop pushing against the grain of what you want and start understanding why God actually created you.
And that our lives and souls will experience so much more peace if we obey!
Your friend for this mad journey called life…..
