Halfway to Somewhere

Last week, we hit the halfway mark of Matthew’s chemo journey! As much as I wish I could punch the air and yell “yaaayyy!” I’m just bloody exhausted. Honestly, if napping were an Olympic sport, I’d be up there with a gold medal and a can of Red Bull for the closing ceremony. This journey is, without a doubt, absolutely knackering. It truly does rip you a new arsehole, no sugar-coating it, folks!

But amidst the fatigue and the relentless grind, we managed to snatch one glorious evening of normality. We went to see “War of the Worlds” musical version, and it was cracking. For those few hours, it felt like our old life was back, a trip to York, some random (but surprisingly decent) place to eat, and a night out at the theatre. For a little while, Roger the Dodger (that’s what we’ve nicknamed Matthew’s unwelcome guest, who was removed in August) took a back seat, and we got to live as we used to before he came along and turned everything upside down. Moments like that feel more precious, more beautiful, and definitely worth treasuring.

Speaking of taking a back seat, Mighty Morphine Power Stranger seems to be stepping aside and letting his cousin, Carrie Codine, hog the limelight now. On the plus side, Matthew’s pain is being managed well enough that he only needs Carrie these days (small mercies, eh?). The chemo is still doing its usual number: weakness, dizziness, tiredness, and the general feeling of being run over by a lorry. But we keep pushing through, making sure Matthew gets as much rest as possible and keeping our collective sense of humour intact.

If there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s that the tough bits make the lovely bits shine all the brighter. We’re halfway there, and even if I just want to sleep for a week straight, I know we’ll keep finding those precious moments and hanging onto them for dear life.

Onward, one nap (and one dodgy musical) at a time!

Let’s see what crazy shit this week has in store for me!

Chow for now!

Grief is a universal language that we all speak.

Grief is an emotion and sad feeling that the whole of humanity can connect with. We can all agree that at some stage in our lives we have lost somebody we loved, or somebody close to us. We can all understand that deep sadness that grief leaves behind and agree that we feel shock, disbelief and sadness.
