Would You Be-Leaf It?
At first, I planned to include this week’s blog in the comic, but I changed my mind. To really share how I felt on Wednesday afternoon, I needed to write honestly and openly, just as it was.
As you know, Matthew’s journey through his cancer diagnosis, tumour removal, and chemo over the past four months is something none of us, Matthew, our kids, his parents, or close friends, would ever wish on anyone.
It’s been gutting emotionally, mentally, and physically, and It’s been heartbreaking in every way to watch someone you love go through so much pain and trauma, and to see them change so much from all the medication and chemo. My husband used to be a very active 6’4″ man, working long days in construction and spending weekends riding his motorbike through the countryside with a big smile. We loved road trips, quiet holiday cottages, waking up to birdsong, and morning dog walks. Now, all of that was replaced by pain, exhaustion, endless hospital appointments, surgery, and so much medication. Hearing him scream in pain and seeing him become a shadow of himself has been awful. He became so weak he needed help to get out of the shower, because he couldn’t support his own weight.
Scrolling social media one afternoon, as you do. I came across the utterly hilarious Tooturnttony and his family (if you haven’t seen them, you really should). They’re all a bit mad and keen to eat CBD gummies as if they’re going out of fashion. That’s when it struck me! Shit! Why didn’t I think of this from the outset! Get Matthew on the weed! (I mean the CBD legal version of course!) So I ordered some CBD gummies online. When they arrived, I had Matthew chew a couple of the 20mg ones to see what they did, and 20 minutes later a huge outburst of giggling came from the other room that didn’t stop for the rest of the evening. After all the groaning of pain we’d been hearing for months, it was absolutely fantastic to hear him so happy and in such a good mood, giggling at how funny the zombies he was shooting in his PlayStation game were, how hilarious it was, and how much fun he was having, saying how much he’d missed zombie bashing. Basically in English he was absolutely high as a kite on gummies, and he’d been pain free for the first time since well before his diagnosis.
He slept well all night.
After 48 hours of taking CBD, he stopped using morphine, codeine, and even the strongest ibuprofen. The only pain relief he needed was CBD gummies. On Wednesday morning, I left for work while Matthew was still in bed, so I let him sleep. Later, while I was at the community centre putting away a delivery, I looked up and saw Matthew, dressed in his bike gear, coming down the stairs and getting on his bike to ride off.
I couldn’t believe what I was seeing. I was shocked and emotional, it was really him. In just two days, he went from barely moving to riding his bike again after almost four months. It felt like a real miracle.
That settled it! That evening, I went online and bought the biggest jar of gummies I could find, a 100-piece jar of blue jelly bears. If this helps him, why stop? The day after his chemo, he woke up, showered, got dressed on his own, and didn’t nearly pass out like before. He even went out, picked up a parcel, and was back before I left for work. I started work at 9:30 because he didn’t need my help that morning. I was amazed; it felt like the old Matthew was almost back. Of course, he still has to be careful with his energy and watch out for infections since chemo has weakened his immune system.
The effect these cannabis gummies have had is incredible! In just five days, I’ve seen changes in Matthew’s recovery that prescription medication couldn’t achieve in four months. I fully support anyone using this plant to help with a chronic disease like cancer or horrible pain. There’s definitely something powerful within CBD that prescription drugs cannot achieve at this level.
For my next comic-style blog post, I’ll call the gummies Colin Cannabis and create a showdown between Colin, the Mighty Morphine Power Stranger, and Carrie Codiene. It would be hilarious! In a “Handbags at Dawn Showdown”, ha ha!
I wanted to write this post seriously to highlight CBD’s power and how quickly it can make a difference. You never know who might read this, and maybe it could help someone else avoid months of pain, months of sleepless nights, months of feeling useless as a caregiver, exhausted and running on empty. All because they didn’t know the power of Colin Cannabis!
Have a great weekend, and see you back here with some more comic dramas,
Chow for now
Your friend for the journey
Kate
(Just a note for anyone with negative opinions about our CBD choices: Yes, it’s cannabis, and yes, it’s legal now. No, there’s no THC, they’re not addictive, and they don’t cause any kind of psychosis. I’m not interested in dealing with negativity, so please, go bollocks)
