The Power of Letting Go
There’s a certain peace that comes with finally understanding you can’t control everything, or everyone. The phrase “let them” has become a quiet mantra for me, a reminder that the only person I’m truly responsible for is myself. It’s tempting to want to shape outcomes, fix situations, or even guide people down the paths we think are best for them. But here’s the truth: when you try to control everything, the only person you exhaust is yourself.
Let them misunderstand you. Let them judge. Let them walk away. Let them make their own choices, even if you think you know better. The world doesn’t spin more smoothly because you’re gripping the wheel tighter. In fact, the tighter your grip, the more likely you are to burn out. Stress isn’t a badge of honour, it’s a sign that you’re carrying burdens that aren’t yours to hold.
I’ve learned that by letting people be who they are, I create space for myself to be honest about who I am. Letting go doesn’t mean you don’t care; it means you recognise the boundaries of your responsibility. When you free others from your expectations, you free yourself from disappointment. And in that freedom, you find clarity and peace.
Let them.
Let them make mistakes.
Let them learn, grow, leave, love, or even ignore you. The only thing you can truly control is how you respond, how you show up, and how honestly you live. Letting go is not giving up; it’s choosing yourself over the illusion of control.
Let them, Let them, Let them!
Mel Robbins wrote a book on the subject, and it is a fabulous book to read. I highly recommend it. I purchased the audio version myself, but you can check it out on Amazon by clicking right here.
In the end, letting them be them and letting you be you is the most honest way to be you.
